Local Teen Rescues Animals
Manor Estate Farm Animal Rescue Centre is located in Toll Bar (Bentley), Doncaster and was founded by a local teenager with a calling for helping animals.
Ami Louise Downs spent her school work experience at RSPCA in Doncaster and fell in love with helping vulnerable animals.
After leaving school Ami was volunteering at RSPCA Doncaster while studying Animal Care at college and quickly realised that there was more she could do to help.
RSPCA simply do not have the resources, staff or capacity to help all of the animals that need rescue, so Ami was determined to make a difference, all at the age of just 18.
Helping animals is my life, I just love them all and would give anything to help!
Ami Located a plot of land and agreed to rent it to start her own Animal Rescue Centre.
It started with a Donkey called Dez and a Pony called Wellington who was abandoned, but quickly expanded as word spread of Ami's Rescue Centre.
Now Ami has a whole host of animals, including 30 Chickens and Ducks, Geese, several Goats and Pigs, Cats, Guinea Pigs and more.
Ami and her rescue centre have been featured on TV, in the local press and on Radio as recognition for her amazing work.
Disaster Strikes with Local Flooding!
The village in which the farm is located (Bentley in Doncaster) suffered severe flooding with up to 4 feet of water flooding local residents homes, and the farm wasn't spared!
Ami, her family and local volunteers raced to raise the stables and barns on wooden pallets and pumped as much water out as possible to keep the animals from drowning. Although they managed to save all animals they lost hundreds of pounds of food, straw and supplies for the animals.
This was a huge blow to the farm as they rely on Ami's wages, who works part time in a clothes shop to support the farm and donations made from local residents.
This is where we decided we need to help the farm so have agreed to make a monthly donation to provide food and supplies to the farm, but they still require more.
